New Tate Magazine To Carry Advertising

The new Tate magazine, due to be relaunched next month, will carry consumer advertising on its pages for the first time.

Condé Nast will now publish the magazine, which was previously published by Spafax publishing. The re-vamped magazine is designed to appeal to a wide ranging audience and will be also be distributed internationally.

The revamped magazine will contain sections relating specifically to the Tate galleries, but is keen to position itself as a new face on the broader lifestyle magazine market. It will feature articles about film, theatre, performance and fashion as well as art and architecture.

The launch issue will include advertising from a range of Top-End Fashion players including Gucci, Prada, Chanel, Issey Miyake and Armani. However the title is keen to distinguish itself from Condé Naste’s existing fashion titles, a spokeswoman told Newsline: “The new Tate magazine will carry many of the same adverts as Condé Nast’s fashion titles. However as it is an art magazine it will also appeal to more cutting edge brands that you might not normally associate with top-end titles.”

ABC results for the six-month period ending June 2002 saw solid overall growth across Condé Nast’s magazine portfolio, with a 5.7% year-on year increase. However it was Glamour magazine which grabbed the headlines after pushing Cosmopolitan off the top spot in the Women’s Monthly sector (see ABC Jan-Jun 2002 – Women’s Monthly Titles)
