New tool aims to bust marketing jargon

Programmatic advertising platform Chango has announced the launch of an app for Google Chrome that helps marketers make sense of industry jargon…which Newsline hopes includes the phrase ‘programmatic advertising platform’.

The Marketing Contradictionary, once installed, will highlight common advertising and marketing terms on websites, blogs and online publications. Clicking on a highlighted word/phrase will then reveal the definition.

The current definitions are derived from the Interactive Advertising Bureau’s Glossary of Marketing Terms, however users are also able to submit their own definitions.

The tool also has a quiz mode where users can test their knowledge of marketing terms and earn badges with correct answers.

“This is a fast-changing industry and very few marketers, whether they admit it or not, can keep up with the latest lingo,” said Ben Plomion, vice president of marketing at Chango.

“This is a discreet and fun way to test your knowledge and help you understand the myriad of terms that pop up. We also see this being useful to journalists, investors, students and others who have a stake in advertising and marketing, but not spend their days elbow deep in DSPs and DMPs.”

We hope that you won’t have to use the tool on Newsline due to the exhausting efforts we put in to de-jargonising the press releases we receive; however, if you think you might be able to catch us out, you can download The Marketing Contradictionary here.
