ITV performed considerably better over the New Year holiday period than during Christmas week. BARB viewing figures for the w/e 2/1/94 released today show only three BBC programmes in the top 10. Several ITV Christmas specials were successes; Strike it Lucky Special achieved an audience of 15.44 million and the Gladiator’s Final acheived 14.33m; Taggart achieved 13.38m.
Emmerdale increased its audience to 13.31m compared to a usual figure of around 10m; this was due to a plane crash in Thursday’s episode killing four characters.
