New Yorkshire Cable System
Compagnie Generale des Eaux has linked with Singapore Telecom and Yorkshire Water to invest about £200m in a cable system for Yorkshire.
Singapore Telecom and CGE will each take a 45% stake, with Yorkshire Water putting up the rest. The money will be invested in Yorkshire Cable, which holds six franchises in the county. The company will offer up to 45 TV channels, as well as high-quality telephony services to 800,000 homes.
So far development has only taken place in Bradford, where the company reports a 30% take up of cable TV services, and over 20% taking telephone services.
