New Yorkshire Regional Radio Licence Advertised

The Radio Authority has advertised for a new regional ILR licence to cover the Yorkshire area. This is the largest local radio licence outside London which the Authority plans to advertise during the current ILR development phase; it will cover at least 3m adults in an area which includes the cities of Leeds, Bradford, Sheffield and Kingston-upon-Hull.

Two other local licences have also been advertised, for the area of Wigan (including St Helens) and also for the area of the Heads of the South Wales Valleys.

The Radio Authority has received applications for the re-advertised licences of Taunton & Yeovil, Oxford & Banbury and Reading, Basingstoke and Andover. The Taunton & Yeovil and Oxford & Banbury areas both received just one application each, both from the incumbents; Orchard FM and Fox FM. For the Reading area 2-Ten FM and Classic Gold 1431 AM, incumbents, applied, as did Thames and Test Valley Radio Plc.

The Radio Authority has also announced three licence awards; the AM licence for the area of Craigavon, in Northern Ireland has been awarded to AM Radio Ltd. The licence for the Cambridge & Newmarket area has been re-awarded to Q103 FM, and the local licence for Doncaster has also been re-awarded, to the incumbent Hallam FM.
