News Corporation Results – Newspapers Down
News Corporation has announced results for the nine months to the end of March. Overall the corporation achieved a 27.6% increase in profits, to A$852.8M (£410m). This increase was due to associate companies, such as BSkyB, of which News Corporation owns 50%. BSkyB had 3.4m subscribers, an increase of 1m since last June.
Operating profits on the newspaper side fell however, from A$167.9m to A$91.3m with the UK price war a major cause. However, News Corporation said that the price war was achieving an increase in circulations, which in turn allowed the Sun to increase advertising rates. Ad revenues generally were up 11% year on year.
