News International Hikes Ad Ratecards
From next month News International will increase the ad rates on both The Times and The Sunday Times, claiming increases in circulation as justification for the rises.
On 6 September The Sunday Times‘ ratecard will increase by 5%; the following day ad prices at The Times go up by 10%. A spokesperson from News International’s advertising department says that negotiations with advertisers are currently in progress and that deals will generally be negotiated on an individual basis.
The reaction of one press buyer was that the rises were “not really justified” and that although the papers have performed “quite well” in terms of circulation he would probably not be buying into the higher rates.
Whilst The Times‘ circulation increased significantly between between 1993 and 1996, the rise over the last couple of years has not been so steep.
