Newscom Acquires Hampshire Chronicle Group

News Communications & Media, has bought the Hampshire Chronicle Group for 16 million. The purchase of the titles, from Jacob and Johnson Ltd, makes the regional newspaper group the seventh largest in the UK.

The deal will make Newscom the proprietor of one of Britain’s oldest newspapers – the Hampshire Chronicle – as well as the Romsey Advertiser, and free titles, the Chronicle Advertiser, and the South Hants & Winchester Weekly News.

NEWSCOM chief executive John Dux said: “This quality acquisition continues our strategy for growth whilst adding another premium product to our stable of newspapers. It completes the final part of the jigsaw of our publishing ambitions in the South Hampshire area and will provide NEWSCOM significant synergies, particularly from production costs.”

“NEWSCOM will now be able to develop further its service to both readers and advertisers in the region. Our intention is to broaden the circulation base of the Hampshire Chronicle with further specialised editions.”
