Newspaper Price War Hots Up
The Daily Telegraph and The Independent have both entered a summer price war with The Times by offering cut-price editions for certain days of the week.
Despite a Leader which described 10p as a “fair reflection” of The Times’s value, The Independent has now decided to offer vouchers which will reduce its price on Mondays and Wednesdays to 10p. The Daily Telegraph is offering its readers a similar voucher offer which reduces its Monday issue price to 10p.
In a counter-attack to the Telegraph’s competitive subscription offer (Newsline 03/06) The Times has said that it will ‘match any subscription offer’ from other daily newspapers and is offering a free-phone number for further details.
