Newspaper Sections Research – More

The study carried out by Millward Brown for the Weekend Reader Research Group into readership of quality weekend papers has shown that no more than 64% of readers finish reading the main section on the Saturday – a significant amount of reading takes place on Sunday and in the week.

The average time spent reading Sunday papers is longer than for Saturday papers; 83-90 minutes compared to 53-92.

78-88% of Saturday readers regard the paper as good value for money; with 75- 83% for Sunday papers. The study also showed that readers have a strong attachment to their weekend papers, wtih 4-14% (ranging across the titles)claiming that they would be “not at all disappointed” if the paper they read was no longer available.

The research was based on over 2,000 interviews with ABC1 adults between September and October 1993.
