Newspaper Society Appoints New Marketing Director

The Newspaper Society has appointed former head of the Australian Newspaper Advertising Bureau, Russell Collier, as its new marketing director.
Collier, who takes up the position on 21 July, has spent more of his career working in multinational advertising and at media agencies, including Ogilvy & Mather in Sydney where his clients included Unilever, Xerox and American Express.
For the last two years Collier has worked in London as a consultant and has held various publishing an research positions. He will replace David Hoath, who leaves to become group advertising sales director at regional newspaper publisher Newsquest.
Commenting on the appointment, David Newell, director of the Newspaper Society, said: “I believe Russel’s background as buyer, seller, researcher and in particular his experience at running the Newspaper Advertising Bureau in Australia will prove invaluable in building relationships with the advertising industry and ensuring the Newspaper Society best meets the needs of its members.”
The Newspaper Society has also appointed John Robertson, deputy chairman of the Newbury Weekly News, as its new president. He replaces Tim Bowdler, chief executive of Johnston Press, who stepped down at the beginning of this month.
The Newspaper Marketing Agency recently announced a significant expansion of its team, with the appointment of former Mindshare Worldwide managing partner Nigel Bromley to the key role of senior marketing manager (see NMA Boosts Team With Senior Marketing Appointment).
