Newspaper Society Steps Up Ad Drive

The Newspaper Society (NS) is stepping up its national advertising drive with the creation of a new marketing committee and the appointment of a new marketing chairman and director.

Jim Brown, chairman of Newsquest Media, will head up the marketing committee, which has been set up to increase the regional press’ share of national advertising business.

David Hoath, national development manager at the NS will takeover as marketing director and will oversee the marketing committee and monitor its performance.

Hoath said: “We set about the challenge of attracting a greater share of national advertising business two years ago and have built up a real head of steam. Its very pleasing that the efforts of my team over that period have been recognised and that publishers believe we are well on the way to fulfilling that objective.”

Last year the Newspaper Society announced an action plan to increase the regional press’ share of the national advertising market. Its initiatives included investing in ad effectiveness research, the launch of an artwork delivery system, and improved reproduction standards (see Regional Press To Invest £100,000 In Ad Effectiveness Research).
