The European, the weekly English-language newspaper, has been launched in electronic form to subscribers via ISDN. This allows electronic transmission of the whole newspaper to a PC in exactly the same format as the original printed version – with the advantage of video, radio and voice clips. It will be available to subscribers at the same cover price as the paper-version – 75p per copy.
The page layout and brand identity of the newspaper stays the same and delivery of the product from The European’s server to the subscriber world-wide takes approximately ten minutes. Icons can then turn text into speech and photographs into video footage. Updated material can be attached to the articles and there is also a search facility across back-issues.
