Newsquest has reported a 23.6% year on year fall in its ad revenue in Q3.
The regional publisher has also revealed a 29.1% year on year decline in its classified ad revenue, due to dips in real estate ads, employment ads and car ads.
Newsquest operates 300 newspaper titles in the UK, including Scotland’s Sunday Herald and The Argus in Brighton.
Its US-based owner Gannett said the results reflect “the difficult and volatile economy” in the UK.
Craig Dubow, Gannett chairman, added that if the exchange rate between sterling and the US dollar had remained constant, year on year ad revenue at Newsquest would have been 16.5% lower.
Newsquest also revealed a 24.4% drop in classified advertising revenue in July this year.
