NMA Appoints Marketing Manager To Oversee Research

The Newspaper Marketing Agency has appointed Grace Bowman as a dedicated marketing manager to oversee its biggest ever research project on the effectiveness of advertising in the national press.

The new role will see Bowman, formerly an agency and client manager at Lowe & Partners Worldwide, assume responsibility for publicising the NMA’s effectiveness study, which will launch later this year.

The wide-ranging study, called Measuring Advertising Effectiveness of Newspapers – A Fresh Approach, aims to develop a model for all the different strategic roles for advertising in newspapers. It will also examine the new metrics to measure the impact of newspaper campaigns.

The project is the first large scale effectiveness study to be undertaken since the NMA launched last year following a collaboration between a number of newspaper groups keen to argue the case for display advertising in the national press (see NMA Unveils First Corporate Identity).

Bowman will report directly to NMA planning director, Anne Foster, who said: “We’re delighted to have Grace on board as an additional resource for the effectiveness initiative, the NMA’s major project this year.”

During her time Lowe & Partners Worldwide, Bowman worked on major accounts including Weetabix, Heineken and HSBC. Previously she worked at the National Literacy Trust promoting the Department for Education and Skills’ National Reading Campaign.

Earlier this year the Newspaper Marketing Agency confirmed that advertising revenue figures for national newspapers will be published on a monthly basis in an attempt to make the medium more accountable. NMA chief executive, Maureen Duffy, persuaded both the Advertising Association and all the national newspapers to provide revenue figures for display and classified advertising on a monthly, rather than a quarterly basis (see National Newspapers To Publish Monthly Revenue Figures).
