NME Highlights Festival Season With Special Issues

NME is to promote the summer festival season with four special issues covering a range of forthcoming live music events.

The first of these goes on sale this week and includes a 28-page glossy supplement entitled the 50 Greatest Festival Photos Of All Time, in celebration of the best of live music.

The following week IPC will publish a special issue to support Eminem’s Anger Management tour in Milton Keynes. It will feature a cover dedicated to hip hop artists such as 50 Cent and Dr Dre.

The third issue will take the form of a festival special, featuring a free Go-Co energy bar, Durex condoms and special vouchers for money off food, tents and blankets. IPC claims the issue is the biggest summer festival promotion on offer.

The final special issue will be dedicated to the Glastonbury music festival and will contain a range of news, features and photos from the event (see NME Unveils One-Off Special To Coincide With Glastonbury).

Neil Robinson, publishing director at IPC Ignite, commented: “This year has seen a huge rush in ticket sales for the summer festivals and NME is at the heart of this live music buzz. Putting out this run of special issues is just great for NME readers and the start of an exciting summer season for the UK’s favourite music magazine.”

The latest ABC results for the six months ending December 2002 show that NME has seen circulation increase by 4.1% year on year to just over 73,000. The magazine’s strength has been attributed to a backlash against the increasing proliferation of manufactured pop stars and the declining popularity of dance music in the charts.

IPC recently announced plans to run a launch campaign for the new Audi TT across its women’s titles, Marie Claire and In Style (see IPC Secures Audi For Launch Cross-Title Ad Campaign).
