No Applicants For Cable Licence

The local delivery franchise for Eastern Derbyshire has not attracted any applicants, the ITC announced today. The franchise was advertised on 24 June with a deadline of noon on 19 September. The licence covers the Chesterfield, Matlock and Belper areas.

Jon Davey, the ITC Director of Cable and Satellite, commented that “The absence of applications does not reflect a lack of interest in extending cable to these parts of Derbyshire or, I believe, a judgement on the minimum price set by the ITC. We now intend to consider how the area could be divided into what might be more manageable smaller franchises before being readvertised.”

The ITC said that it only invites applications when it is aware that interest has been expressed in serving an area.
