Northcliffe Newspapers Acquires CIN And Admag
Regional newspaper publisher, Northcliffe Newspapers, has acquired Central Independent Newspapers (CIN) and Admag Newspapers in a deal worth about £40 million. The deal gives Northcliffe a further 21 regional papers as well as three magazines, making it temporarily the largest regional newspaper group in the UK with a weekly circulation of 8.4 million. However, when the Trinity/Mirror Group merger is completed, the Mirror Trinity group will become by far the country’s largest regional publisher (see Trinity Remains Top Of Regional Publishers League).
Both Admag and CIN publish newspapers in the West Midlands region. Pat Montague, currently chief executive of Northcliffe subsidiary WHY Publications, has been appointed chairman of CIN and Admag. He says: “There is no greater opportunity in publishing in the West Midlands than that offered by CIN in meeting the needs of the local communities and businesses it serves.”
