Northcliffe Newspaper Group is currently testing an interactive Teletext system that allows people to buy cars via their TV sets. The service will be broadcast in the South West of England, covering the Westcountry Television franchise area.
Interactive Teletext allows the user to respond directly to information seen on the screen in a two-way communication. The car sales system, which is based on the Auto Hunter internet service, will give viewers the chance to search for the model, make, price range and location of the car they wish to buy.
The Auto Hunter Interactive Service is carried on ITV Teletext page 352. After a pilot of three months in the South West, the service may be rolled out to other Northcliffe circulation areas in the UK.
