Northern & Shell has appointed AOL UK’s Toby Morris as its new commercial director across Daily Express, Daily Star and celebrity magazine brands.
Morris will be responsible for driving advertising revenue across both print and digital, as well as building on the company’s growing investment in online platforms.
As commercial director at AOL, Morris was responsible for setting the overall sales strategy for the business in the UK market across its mix of content sites and AOL’s third party network businesses, working across brands such as HuffPost, MyDaily, TechCrunch and Engadget.
Prior to AOL, he was client services director at goviral, a company acquired by AOL in January 2011, and before that spent two years at AOL running the premium and client services team.
Morris also brings with him experience from Bauer, Independent newspapers and Viacom Outdoor.
Commenting on the appointment, Stan Myerson, group joint managing director of Northern & Shell, said: “Through strong investment, our brands have successfully transitioned to become true multi-platform destinations, offering some of the industry’s most valuable advertising opportunities to clients.
“I am delighted to welcome Toby to Northern & Shell where his commitment to building and delivering successful sales strategies and his experience in both digital and traditional media will be key for our continued success.”
Morris added: “It’s an exciting time at Northern & Shell and I’m looking forward to leading the division. We have a significant budget to allow us to increase investments and give our clients an offering with real impact.”
