NS And PPA Form Strategic Alliance

The Newspaper Society (NS) and the Periodical Publishers Association (PPA) have announced a strategic alliance across their two sectors which have a combined revenue of over £9 billion.

The alliance is to initially focus on four initiatives: representation in Brussels, UK public affairs, the establishment of a National Training Organisation (NTO) for all print media and the provision of legal advice.

In a joint statement NS director, David Newell, and PPA chief executive, Ian Locks, said: “Together, regional newspapers, magazines and business information publishing represent well over half the print media sector and it makes sense for us increasingly to work together in the future.”

They stressed, though, that neither the identity nor the autonomy of either organisation would be compromised by the proposals.

Locks said the association fits, “very well in PPA’s plans for the future, which include further future development of the Business Information Forum, embracing organisations representing exhibitions, directories and database publishing, newsletters and direct marketing as well as magazines.”
