NTL Acquires Eastern Group Telecoms For £91m

The US cable TV group NTL – the bidder for Newcastle United (see Update: NTL/Newcastle United Deal) – has swooped on another British business, buying Eastern Group Telecoms for £91 million. The group will take over the business from its current owners Eastern Group, which also runs electricity and gas supply services in East Anglia.

The acquisition gives NTL control of a 1,800km network of fibre optic cables across the region and 121 radio masts which provide links for the UK’s major mobile phone operators.
