NTL Appoints New TV Product Marketing Director

NTL has appointed Matthew Seaman, former director of interactivity at ITV Digital, as its TV product marketing director.

Seaman, who left ITV Digital last year, will report to NTL’s director of TV, Ron Henwood and will be responsible for marketing the company’s TV product to existing and potential customers.

Seaman aims to target consumers using direct mail, the NTL TV Guide and lists of customers that are already signed up to other parts of NTL’s business. Responsibility for marketing will remain with brand director Bart Michels.

In January the debt-laden cable company reduced its central marketing team from 55 people to 8 people and “streamlined” its marketing budget for 2002 from £65m to £10 million in an attempt to cut costs. Group marketing director, Mike Hounsell and marketing director at NTL Home, Charles Darley left the company as a result of the overhaul (see NTL Streamlines Central Marketing).

Earlier in the week NTL announced that it is launching a new broadband internet service for residential users. The company claims that the new 1-megabit service is the UK’s “fastest ever” (see NTL Unveils UK’s Fastest Internet Service).
