NTL Expands Its Interactive Output

NTL has acquired a stake in Two Way TV as part of the completion of its merger deal with Cable & Wireless (see Government Clears NTL/CWC Merger). The interactive entertainment service launched earlier this year on the C&W digital platform offering viewers the chance to compete against each other in gameshows and quizzes (see Two Way TV To Launch Interactive Versions Of Popular Quiz Shows).
As part of the deal NTL acquires a 48.1% voting interest in Two Way TV from Cable & Wireless and has appointed three directors to the board. Other shareholders in the station include the Hilton Group and venture capitalist, Vencom.
Jeremy Thorp, group managing director of interactive services at NTL, said: “We have had a focus on bringing games which utilise the unique capability of our networks since starting the development of our interactive services. Two Way TV exploit the new medium to create an exciting and involving TV experience and have demonstrated the attraction of games to the customer. We are pleased to be able to add them to our line-up.”
Cable & Wireless and Two Way TV have been working together to develop interactive services for a year (see C&W And Two Way TV Develop Interactive Advertising Service).
