NTL Gives DAB Demonstration

NTL, the transmission provider for commercial radio and television, has commissioned a demonstration Digital Audio Broadcasting multiplex at the 1996 Radio Festival Classic FM Demonstrates Commitment To Digital Broadcasting in Birmingham. The multiplex aims to demonstrate the variety and depth of commercial radio.

John Trowsdale, NTL’s product manager, commented: “Our Radio Festival multiplex is further proof of NTL’s long-term commitment to digital broadcasting. Our DAB strategy is based on supporting our customers into the digital age. With the introduction of a data service, we aim to show broadcasters how DAB allows them to add value to their services, for the benefits of listeners and advertisers alike.”

The NTL demonstration is taking place on 16-17th July and includes Classic FM, Heart 106.2, Kiss 100FM, Melody FM, Sunrise Radio, Talk Radio UK and Virgin 105.8 as part of their set-up.

The DAB multiplex license will be announced by the Radio Authority after the 1996 Broadcasting Bill becomes law (*Newsline 17/4/96).
