NTL Links With EMAP For Interactive TV Content

NTL has signed a number of content deals for its interactive Entertainment Channel which launches on 31 March (see NTL Unveils Interactive Services), including one with EMAP Metro. The telecommunications company will also carry content and e-commerce provided by Ticketmaster and the Internet Movie Database.

Under the deal, NTL customers will have access to the online versions of the EMAP Metro’s Q and Empire titles, which between them hold an archive of film, music and book reviews. Ticketmaster’s service allows users to search and book tickets to films, shows and gigs online.

These services will run on NTL’s TV/internet service which allows users to access areas of the world wide web through their television sets. The project has been set up in association with Microsoft, Barclays and Universal Studios, amongst others, and precedes NTL’s digital TV launch which is expected to be sometime this spring.

Following the launch of the Entertainment Channel in NTL homes at the end of March, the service will be extended to digital terrestrial and digital cable suppliers. It is expected that further interactive channels will be added during the course of the year.
