NTL Reaches Half Million Target
NTL has passed it year-end target of 500,000 digital subscribers ahead of schedule. A total 505,749 customers are now installed to its digital cable service.
Launched in May this year, the company hoped to attract 300,000 customers by the year-end (see NTL Launches Digital Cable Services). By October, however, its subscription level had reached 325,000 and the group adjusted its its target to ˝m (see NTL Expects To Exceed Digital Subs Of ˝m By Year End).
NTL’s struggling internet service, ntlworld, also passed a milestone this week, registering over ˝m users since its launch in April (see NTL Launches Free Internet Service Ahead Of Schedule). The company was forced to halt all advertising of the service earlier this year after a raft of customer complaints (see NTL Pulls Advertising Of Net Service).
The group now offers broadband enabled set-top boxes and said that the majority of its customers would have access to high-speed broadband services including enhanced and interactive TV by the end of next year.
Barclay Knapp, president and CEO of the group, said: “I can’t think of better gifts this holiday season than to achieve these important customer milestones…NTL’s future is rooted squarely in the exciting new world of broadband services, and although we still have a long way to go, the accelerating take up of these services means we’re starting to get there fast.”
