NTL Unveils Interactive Services
Cable and communications company, NTL, has just unveiled plans to launch what it claims to be the UK’s first fully interactive television service. The operator is to distribute set-top boxes for its service outside NTL cable franchise areas, making it nationally available.
The service, set to launch next Spring, is not to be confused with cable digital television, said a company spokesperson this morning – it is primarily an interactive service but will also offer a few pay-TV channels from ONdigital, the digital terrestrial broadcaster. Free to air channels from the BBC and ITV are also included in the package, along with ‘cheap’ telephone calls.
The main focus of the package, however, will be services like home shopping and banking, as well as access to the internet.
The project has been set up in association with Microsoft, Barclays and Universal Studios, amongst others, and is to be preceeded by an analogue TV and internet service, which will launch this year.
Subscribers can access the Cable/Satellite Database by selecting “Cable & Satellite” from the drop-down box at the top of this page.
