Nuts Ahead Of Zoo In Readership Survey

IPC Media had cause for celebration with the release of the latest National Readership Survey results, as its weekly men’s offering Nuts came out ahead of rival Emap’s Zoo Weekly.

Nuts has clocked up an adult readership of 1,174,000 in the six months to September, compared with a total of 910,000 for Zoo. The statistic builds on Nuts‘ success in circulation, which has seen the title surpass Zoo Weekly‘s figure of just over 200,000 by more than 90,000.

The latest readership figure also means that Nuts has the third highest readership in all men’s lifestyle titles, trailing behind after Emap’s FHM and IPC stablemate Loaded.

Commenting on the readership figure Eric Fuller, Nuts‘ publishing director, said: “We have clearly established Nuts as a core title for advertising schedules for brands targeting young men. We were always confident that we had produced an extremely accessible brand for young men. And we’re absolutely thrilled with these numbers.

Earlier this month saw Emap rapped by the Advertising Standards Association following a complaint from IPC over a claim that Zoo is “The Biggest Men’s Weekly”. The advertising watchdog ruled that, as Zoo had a lower circulation and less pages, the claim was false and should not be repeated (see Emap Finds Size Does Matter In Nuts Contest).
