Observer Editor Resigns

Jonathan Fenby resigned as editor of The Observer yesterday. Peter Preston, was moved from editor of The Guardian to become editor-in-chief of both of the group’s titles, with deputy editor John Price becoming acting editor of The Observer until a replacement is found.

The company commented that “the changes would maximise the use of editorial talent and resources available to the two newspapers” and that they would retain separate identities.

National newspaper circulation data for December 1994 will be available on MediaTel late this afternoon.
