The Board of the Observer has given its backing to the Guardian and Manchester Evening News’s offer to buy the paper. Following a two-hour meeting at the Observer’s headquarters in Battersea directors confirmed the deal, which is believed to value the Sunday newspaper at around £27m. If everything goes according to plan the Guardian will take over total control in August.
