Ofcom Begins Next Phase Of Recruitment
![]()
Ofcom, the new media and communications super-regulator, has begun the next phase of its recruitment process and is searching for candidates to fill 13 specific roles including head of audience, consumer and market research.
The new catch-all organisation appointed its chief executive and senior management team earlier this year (see Ofcom Announces Senior Management Team), but a number of positions still need to be filled before it assumes its full responsibilities in December.
Ofcom is currently advertising for a head of audience, consumer and market research, as well as a chief economist, a head of competition law, a head of finance and a head of standards. The search is also underway for a chief technology officer, a head of spectrum markets and a head of competition economics, amongst others.
The regulator is encouraging applicants from the five existing industry bodies, which it will eventually replace, as well as from professionals working in other areas with a “strong commercial instinct”.
Chief executive, Stephen Carter, recently announced that he expects everyone in London who is joining Ofcom, to be accommodated in the new headquarters at Riverside House by Monday 15 December (see Ofcom To Be Fully Operational By December This Year).
Reports also suggest that Ofcom is expected to forge links with its American counterpart this week as it prepares to co-ordinate its regulation of the UK radio spectrum with the States.
Ofcom chairman, Lord Currie, is set to meet with Michael Powell, chairman of the Federal Communications Commission in Washington, to discuss the demands of regulating the fast-changing television, radio and telecommunication industries. It is expected that he will raise questions over the regulation of the radio spectrum, particularly those frequencies being used for new wireless local computer networks.
