The latest report from Ericsson ConsumerLab shows a rise in on-demand viewing figures, while people are spending less time watching scheduled broadcast television.

Of the 13,000 customers surveyed for the annual Ericsson television and video consumer trend, a reported 84% stated that they watch scheduled broadcast TV at least once a week, which is down from 88% the previous year.

This is compared to the rise of online viewing – short online video clips saw an increase of 47% year on year. Streaming television programmes is also up from 30% to 33%, while streaming films jumped from 23% to 25%.

Although live broadcast television continues to be the most popular form of watching TV, this slight increase of on-demand usage suggests a build in consumer interest and perception of online opportunities.
