Oneword radio, the digital station devoted to the spoken word, is set to become available to millions more listeners through a carriage deal with Sky Digital and its own radio via the internet service.
Oneword began broadcasting its full schedule on Digital One in May this year, three months after Digital One announced its launch (see Launch Of Oneword Pushes National Commercial Radio Beyond BBC). The new deal signed with Sky means it will now be available to Sky Digital subscribers as well.
Today also saw the service become available for the first time via www.oneword.co.uk, adding millions of PC users at home and work to its potential audience.
Announcing the initiatives, managing director Ben Budworth said “These exciting developments mean that the high quality output of our unique radio station is now available seven days a week to a large proportion of the population.”
Oneword broadcasts serialised readings of contemporary and classic books and plays, together with comedy and poetry. It is hoping to establish itself with “Readers, publishers and booksellers throughout the country.” and counts among its shareholders the Guardian Media Group, Chivers Communications, Unique Broadcasting and audio book publishers Heavy Entertainment.
