Online Ads Increase In Christmas Run-Up

Online advertising in the UK has increased 66% year on year in the run up to Christmas, with the number of online shopping campaigns increasing from 271 during November 2000 to 449 in November this year.

A report from LemonAd also found that the total number of campaigns over the year was 7,099, placed on 411 UK sites by 1,501 advertisers.

Simon Bright, UK managing director of NetCrawling, the company which operates LemonAd, commented: The advertisers top ten is dominated by book retailers and pure-play online retailers, however it is interesting to see Tesco at number six, having significantly ramped up its online presence over the last six months.”

Efforts are still being made to increase consumer confidence in shopping online, and in September new research from ACNielsen and Yahoo showed that trust is growing (see New Media Round-Up). With news this week from MORI that more and more UK residents are using interactive technology (see Britain Embraces Interactive Technology) advertisers increasing confidence in the online sell seems well founded.
