Opie Quits Flextech
Lisa Opie, managing director of Flextech, has quit after more than a decade at the company, with no new post to move to.
Opie, who joined Flextech in 1993 as a promotions producer of TCC, has been MD for the past three years. This morning she told her colleagues that she would be going at the end of July.
Speaking to Broadcast, Opie said she had been thinking about quitting for “quite a while” but made the decision a few weeks ago. She added she would spend the summer in Cornwall with her husband and two children then “hopefully get another job”, although she had no new job at present.
The news comes three months after former UBM chief operating officer Malcolm Wall was brought in as Opie’s boss to the position of chief executive of content, NTL/Telewest. Opie said that the pair has a good relationship however and that “[Malcolm] wanted me to stay.”
Wall admitted he had been in conversation with Opie for over a month about her departure and that the start of the search for a new managing director of Flextech was imminent. “It’ll be quite a shock here as she has been Miss cable content,” he said.
As head of Flextech, Opie is responsible for the entertainment channels Living TV, Bravo, Challenge, Trouble, Player and FTN, as well as the interactive digital sales and distribution arm Minotaur. She also sits on the UKTV board.
