Opus Secures Galaxy 101 Sales Contract

GWR’s sales house Opus has been awarded the contract to sell advertising across Vibe FM and Galaxy 101 following the recent joint venture deal between GWR and Scottish Radio Holdings.

The newly created Vibe Radio Services, which is 52% owned by Scottish Radio Holdings and 49% owned by GWR, yesterday acquired Galaxy 101 from Chrysalis Radio for £12.5 million (see Chrysalis Strengthens London Offering With LNR Acquisition). Opus already sells advertising for the group’s Vibe FM brand in the East of England and will now represent Galaxy 101 in the West Country region.

Commenting on the deal, Duncan George, managing director of Opus, said: “We’re delighted to have been awarded the sales contract by the Joint Venture. The 15-24 age segment is always heavily in demand from advertisers – with these stations Opus can offer a broader regional spread, more dynamic advertising opportunities and greater penetration into this important market.”

GWR, which is predicting revenues to be flat for the six month to September 2002 (see Radio Groups Paint Gloomy Picture Of UK Market), also disposed of London News Radio (LNR) yesterday for £23.5 million. The Group sold LNR, which encompasses the LBC and NewsDirect radio brands, to Chrysalis for £23.5 million.

Commenting on the acquisition, Phil Riley, Chrysalis Radio’s chief executive, said: “LNR will provide us with an radio landscape to our benefit, giving London’s listeners more quality radio programming, and offering advertisers a greater ability to reach London’s upmarket speech radio listeners.”

Last week Opus secured a deal with Dilmah Tea to sponsor Classic FM’s breakfast show. The deal begins with a four-week sponsorship of the CD Of The Week feature and will also be linked to a competition to win a years supply of tea (see Classic FM Bags Sponsorship Deal With Dilmah Tea).
