OTT will boost revenues by 50%, say TV broadcasters

More than half of TV broadcasters believe that over-the-top (OTT) services will boost revenues significantly by 2015, found an independent study conducted by MPP Global Solutions.

The study focused on examining the trends, challenges and best practices for the monetisation of the connected industry – with 54% of broadcasters saying that they believe OTT will create a 50% revenue surge.

By 2015, it is predicted that over 380 million people across the globe will view OTT content via a connected device, with the TV industry expected to reap the rewards of OTT – a platform that MPP says will be the ‘lifeblood’ of future revenues.

“The TV industry is eager to fulfil the needs of the modern, digital consumer,” said Paul Johnson, CEO of MPP. “Broadcasters are keen to maximise the returns of OTT services for their offerings; the overwhelming optimism of these findings supports this assertion.

“What is especially exciting for broadcasters is the knowledge that the more flexibility and ease of service they provide, the greater the chance their customers will be loyal and, of course, happy. MPP is an ideal partner with experience delivering a wide variety of monetisation models, unique to the needs of each client’s customers.”
