Over 6m See England Drop The Ball Against Wales

England Defeated Over six million adults saw beaten World Cup finalists England self implode against Wales, in their first match of the RBS 6 Nations on BBC One.

The match, which saw England at one point lead by 16-6, had a peak audience of 7.7 million during the last 15 minutes of the match where the Welsh fought back to claim a memorable victory. This was at least 3.3 million ahead of ITV1’s repeat showing of Bond film A View To A Kill, which was watched by 1.8 million and 2.8 million either side of an ITV news bulletin.

Elsewhere, 2.8 million tuned into the opening match of the competition between Ireland and Italy, while three million saw new-look France defeat Scotland at Murrayfield on Sunday.

ITV1’s decision to move ice skating bonanza Dancing On Ice continues to reap benefits for its Sunday night schedule. Over eight million adults watched the main show between 6.15pm and 7.45pm, whilst a further 7.8 million tuned into the results show to see cleaning guru Aggie Mackenzie voted off the show.

ITV1’s other major Sunday night offerings also managed to pull in good viewing figures, with Wild At Heart and Kingdom attracting audiences of seven million and 4.9 million respectively.

Despite being scheduled against such big ratings pullers, BBC One was also able to attract good audiences for its Sunday night line-up. Lark Rise to Candleford managed to attain 6.1 million up against Wild At Heart, whilst the long-running Antiques Roadshow held sway with 6.6 million despite being on for the last hour of Dancing On Ice.
