Overhaul At Newspaper Society

The Newspaper Society has announced that it will become more streamlined after a new constitution, new rules and a new president were approved at its AGM last week.

Outgoing president Robin Burgess, to be replaced by Midland Independent Newspapers chief executive Chris Oakley, said that the changes were part of a strategic plan aimed at restructuring the Society, its Council and committees and at reducing members’ subscriptions.

The key elements of the plan include changes in the composition and role of Council to better represent the industry; a streamlined departmental and committee structure and the formation of three forums called the Independent Publishers’ Forum, the Technical Forum and the New Media Forum.
