ITV1’s new Real Crime documentary series secured the highest ratings last night with more than 4.2 million peak viewers.
Rachel Nickell – Case Closed, which revealed how it took 16 years to convict Robert Napper for the murder of Nickell, who was killed on Wimbledon Common in 1992, pulled in 4.1 million average viewers and a 19.1% share during the 9pm to 10pm peak-slot.
At the same time, BBC One’s special two-part story from the popular Waking the Dead series attracted a high of 3.6 million viewers and a 16.1% average share.
BBC Two’s The Supersizers Eat managed to bank third place in the peak-hour ratings war with over 2 million peak viewers and a 9.3% share.
Meanwhile, the second episode in the eight-part Build a New Life in the Country series picked up a respectable 1.4 million peak viewers and a 6% average share for channel Five.
However, Channel 4’s The World’s Greatest Musical Prodigies failed to impress, only pulling in 840,000 viewers and a 3.9% share during the all-important hour-long slot.
Earlier on in the evening, the soaps stole the show with the highest overall ratings of the evening. BBC One’s EastEnders and ITV1’s Coronation Street attracted an equally impressive 8.5 million peak viewers.
