The ITC, NTL and Videotron have carried out the first tests in the UK on a cable network of PALplus, a new wide-screen televiusion system that offers a cinema-style format.
Tests have already taken place on ITV, Channel 4 and the BBC, but this was the first time the signals have been successfully tested on a cable network in the UK.
PALplus has been developed by a European consortium that includes the BBC and Independent Television. Manufacturers hope to introduce the first consumer PALplus sets in 1995.
