The cinema advertising contractor Pearl & Dean is updating its identity, which will include the well known signature tune, to give it a more contemporary feel. The relaunch, initiated by Peter Howard-Williams on his appointment as managing director in March 1993, is the final stage of a three year plan to revitalise Pearl & Dean’s operation in the UK.

The new ‘top ‘n’ tail’ identity, created by Lambie-Nairn, the international brand identity specialist, includes a new Pearl & Dean logo and a re-recording of Asteroid, the famous tune in Dolby SR, the industry standard. It was launched to the cinema-going public on Friday 12 July.

Founded in 1954 by Ernie Pearl and Bobby Dean, Pearl & Dean was acquired in early 1993 by Mediavision, the French cinema advertising contractor, and it now has a 22 per cent share of the market. It recently secured the contract for the twelve new Cine-UK multiplexes, as well handling advertising for Warner Brothers and its expanding cinema chain.
