Pearson Results
Pearson has announced results for 1993. Pre-tax profits for the group were up 38% from £150.8m to £208.6m. Within that total, newspapers accounted for £48m, books (Pearson owns Penguin and Longman) £102m. The television side achieved £13.7m (Pearson owns Thames Television and has a 17% stake in BSkyB.)
Pearson is keen to expand its television interests worldwide, according to managing director Frank Barlow. While admitting that this year had started well, Lord Blakenham, chairman, warned that “this year will be a year of transition”.
Pearson shares were up 32p by 15:00 today to 667p.
