Pearson has announced it is to sell its 14.8% stake in Yorkshire Tyne Tees Television to MAI, for £41.3m; MAI, which controls 61% of Meridian, last year bought Anglia TV for £290m.
Pearson Television chief Greg Dyke said, “We’ve decided a 14% stake in a regional broadcaster is no longer of any strategic interest to us”. He added that by divesting itself of its YTTTV holding, Pearson would be able to acquire up to 20% of Channel 5, under existing legislation, “Were our consortium to win”.
