Pearson Television Joins Digital Broadcasting Company
Pearson TV has acquired a 12.3% stake in the Digital Broadcasting Company (DBC), a consortium which plans to launch a ‘distinctive’ digital TV film service early next year (see Digital Broadcasting Company Plans ‘Distinctive’ Movie Service).
DBC was established in January this year by St James’ Investment Partnership and is lead by Richard Dunn, previously chief executive of Thames Television, and Richard Brooke, former finance director of BSkyB.
DBC says that it has raised further funds from a number of other investors, and is planning to launch its film service over all the new digital networks.
Dunn says: “The introduction of Pearson and other new investors has provided DBC with the capital necessary to develop the service for launch next year. We believe that the programming which is based around cult, classic and independent movies, will prove to be a strong attraction for viewers to the new digital television networks.”
