Performance Cable Channel Launches European Satellite Deal

Performance: The Arts Channel, the arts cable channel owned by the Daily Mail and General Trust has signed a multi-million pound satellite distribution deal with NTL.

The five year contract gives Performance access via the Orion satellite to all cable homes across Europe. The contract starts in March 1996, to coincide with a relaunch of Performance, which involves a new schedule and enhanced new schedule.

… It is reported in today’s Financial Times that Richard Woollam, who used to be director general of the Cable Communications Association, is planning to launch a cable channel to cover the proceedings of the European parliament. The channel, likely to be called the Citizens Channel, would cover all the debates of the parliament in Brussels and Strasbourg.
