PHD Compass Secures Major Account Win In Manchester

PHD Compass (Manchester) has secured the £2.5 million media planning and buying account for national window replacement company, Weatherseal, following a competitive pitch.

The agency has been given a brief to develop press, radio, direct mail and potentially television campaigns, with the first burst of activity due to launch in October and the second burst scheduled for early next year.

Steve Blakeman, managing partner of PHD Compass (Manchester), said: “This is our third major win in the three months since we officially launched, and we are thrilled to be making a real impact in the city. We are currently formulating a multichannel communication plan for Weatherseal, which is focussed on maximising return on investment.”

Ian Blackhurst, managing director of Weatherseal, added: “We selected PHD Compass because of their innovative and insightful approach to our business. Their solutions were also justified in terms of efficiency and accountability.”

PHD Compass launched its Manchester office earlier this year after restructuring its national operations to provide greater emphasis on the UK’s key advertising centres. The move saw London and Manchester become PHD’s primary business hubs, with Ben Harrison taking on the role of media director South and Bridget Moore becoming media director North (see PHD Compass Restructures To Focus On Key Ad Centres).

The latest figures from Nielsen Media Research, published by Campaign, show that PHD saw its billings increase by 2.8% to £282.6 million in the year to June 2003. This places it just behind Universal McCann with total billings of £314.3 million and just ahead of Starcom MediaVest with 254.2.

ZenithOptimedia was the UK’s top media agency group with billings in excess of £644 million, followed by MediaCom in second place with £601.4 million and Carat in third with £541.5 million.
