Piccadilly Lights and BFI Imax go dark for Earth Hour
Mock-up of Piccadilly Lights ahead of Saturday

Piccadilly Lights, BFI Imax and 19 screens across Westfield London and Westfield Stratford City shopping centres will be turned off for Earth Hour.

The switch-off will take place at 8:30pm on Saturday.

Piccadilly Lights will broadcast a five-minute countdown before going completely dark. The screen is usually only turned off in times of national mourning.

Earth Hour, a global movement from the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), encourages businesses and individuals to turn off their lights for 60 minutes in global solidarity to shine a light on the planet and the climate crisis.

Lisa Lee, executive director of brand, campaigns and communications at WWF UK called Earth Hour “a moment for all of us to switch off from our busy lives, reflect and reconnect with nature and the wellbeing benefits it provides. As landmarks, businesses and individuals across the world turn off their lights, we can show our shared commitment to protecting the planet.

“This is also an opportunity to consider how we can take action as individuals and communities to restore nature and allow nature to restore us, during Earth Hour and beyond.”
