Nev Pierce is set to join Empire, the direct rival of his current film magazine, Total Film.
Pierce joined Future’s Total Magazine as editor two years ago and is expected to take on the same position at Bauer’s Empire.
In 2004, he joined Total Magazine, after contributing as a freelancer for 5 years, and moved his way up from reviews editor, to deputy editor and then editor.
Pierce previously worked for Carlton Communications in the film section, working on website Popcorn.co.uk, as well as bbc.co.uk as film reviewer and film news editor.
His departure from Total Magazine coincisides with the publications compact edition launch at WHSmith.
Aubrey Day, group senior editor for Future’s film portfolio, is set to take-over Pierce’s position at the title, becoming editor of the magazine and its website, totalfilm.com.
Day will be responsible for overseeing the launch of the new compact design, as well as coordinating the next stage of development of totalfilm.com, including hiring three new staff.
Total Film will follow similar compact edition launches by FHM and Men’s Health – it will be promoted across 800 WHSmith shops.
Simon Maxwell, group publisher for Future’s film portfolio, said: “Having the extra version on the newstands will help us drive extra sales.”
Total Film sells an average of 85,696 copies, according to the last ABC figures (more information available on MediaTel’s Press Database.)
